Athens Interiors

A study in domestic light — three portraits made over the course of a single afternoon in an apartment in Kolonaki, exploring the space between observation and intimacy.

The brief was simple: a woman, alone in her apartment, in three different moments of a quiet day. No pose, no styling, no narrative. Just the texture of being a person in a room.

We worked across three rooms — the floor by the window in the front room, the kitchen at mid-morning, the bedroom in the early light. Same person, same eye, three windows of attention.

The first attempt always renders the room before the person. The light is correct, the textures convincing, the arrangement plausible — but the woman in the frame is wearing the room's mood, not her own.

What we look for, in the dozens of regenerations that follow, is the moment the body forgets the room. It is harder than it sounds.

The hardest thing to render is not beauty. It is the moment before a face has organized itself.

Three frames, of the many we made. Each chosen for the same quality, recognized after the fact: a small unguardedness that the rest of the candidates didn't carry.

The selection process is the work.
